Join us on Sunday 6th September and run, walk or wheel whatever distance you choose, to empower young people to be healthy, safe and happy.

We are predicted to miss out on an est. £6,000 of fundraising this year due to the cancellation and postponement of events due to COVID-19. This money could have paid for ten weeks of holistic support for six young people, helping them to engage with appropriate support, make positive changes, and pursue a life free from violence and exploitation.

We still want to give you the opportunity to take on a challenge and raise money to ensure young people continue to be healthy, safe and happy. So please join us on Sunday 6th September as we take to the streets and Race with Redthread! Here’s how to get involved:

Step 1

Choose your distance! Options below:

  1. 5k – to represent 2005, the year Redthread set up its first hospital-based violence intervention programme at King’s College Hospital
  2. 11k – to represent the 11 hospitals we work in across London and the Midlands 
  3. 25k – this year, Redthread celebrates its 25th year of existence and what better way to celebrate than covering the same distance!

Step 2

Create your Just Giving page here and start sharing with friends, colleagues and family! We ask you to raise a minimum of £100, this could provide four young people with the opportunity to share their stories, meet decision-makers and influence the way young people are viewed and supported.

Join our Strava group, Redthread Runners, here. A place for #TeamRedthread to meet fellow runners and record their Race for Redthread route – all abilities welcome!

Step 3

Train and fundraise! Depending on what distance you have chosen, train accordingly. Our COO, Jenny Baker, has created a useful resource for those training for a half marathon which can be adapted to the distance you have chosen – this can be found in the pdf pack.

Step 4

Race Day! Get your Redthread vest or red running top at the ready and set off at 10am in your chosen location. Follow other participants through the hashtags #RacewithRedthread and #TeamRedthread.

To mark the route with a Redthread stamp, we are encouraging you to finish your race with our signature ‘R’. See our examples on Strava below. This is not essential, but prizes are up for grabs!
