Dulwich Hamlet FC and Redthread Charity Partnership

May 1st, 2019

Redthread has benefited from the incredible support of Dulwich Hamlet FC for their 18/19 season which has raised an incredible £4210 for the charity!

The partnership’s first official event was on Saturday 16th February with a charity match day. It was a Redthread takeover with volunteer’s bucket collecting throughout the day, the 50/50 raffle and Dulwich Hamlet FC players wearing a specially designed Redthread kit which was then auctioned. Altogether, it raised an amazing £3911.

John, a Redthread youth worker at King’s College Hospital, said of the day: “It was brilliant having a fun day out and raising money for Redthread too, the whole day had a great community vibe.”

We were joined by Helen Hayes, MP for Dulwich and West Norwood, and Catherine Rose, the Mayor of Southwark, who did an excellent job of bucket collecting in the second half of the match.

We would like to say a special thank you to Owen and Max who were the winners of the clubs 50/50 raffle and very generously donated their winnings to Redthread.

Our second fundraiser was a pub quiz which took place on Thursday March 16th and over 60 people attended. It was a lively evening which included a round were quizzers had to make a Dulwich Hamlet FC mascot out of tin foil! Companies including MeatLiquor ED and Fresh Flower Company very generously donated prices for the raffle which helped contribute to the overall total of £520 being raised on the night.

We were presented with our cheque of the overall total at the final home game of the season on Monday 22nd April by both the Club’s President, Jack Payne, and Director, Ben Clasper.

Rob Hyman, Community Lead for the Club said: “It has been fantastic working with the talented Redthread team to raise money for such a worthy cause. They do such great work which all started in the local community.

Our work this year with Redthread is not a short term project. We as a club are committed to an ongoing partnership with Redthread and look forward to continuing our work with them next season.”

We would like to say a huge thank you to Dulwich Hamlet FC which includes the generous fans and Dulwich Hamlet Supporters’ Trust for their generosity and enthusiasm in supporting Redthread. We look forward to working with the club in the future so keep an eye out next season!
