Once a year the Charity Awards, run by Civil Society Media, recognises charities that are innovative, exemplify best practice, and deliver sustainable benefit to communities and society in general.

Last week, we attended the awards evening held at Tower Bridge and we were delighted to be chosen as the winner of the Children and Youth category for our Youth Violence Intervention Programme. Our programme embeds specialist youth workers in the emergency departments of hospitals enabling us to meet young victims of violence or exploitation within the “teachable moment” – a unique moment of reflection in hospital that can by a catalyst for positive change – and empower them to pursue positive changes within their lives.

We accepted our award before an audience of voluntary sector leaders, frontline staff and celebrities at a ceremony hosted by Reverend Richard Coles, Radio 4 broadcaster, writer and Church of England priest.

We are thrilled to have won the award and want to thank all our colleagues at King’s College Hospital, St George’s Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre – without their hard work and dedication to supporting vulnerable young people our work would not be possible.
